TONAL DROP THURSDAYS: Moog Mother-32 Patch - "Subterranean 60Hz Drone"

This week, we're putting aside the chaotic percussion of the Pulsar-23 and focusing on pure, foundational, seismic sound with the Moog Mother-32. This patch, "Subterranean 60Hz Drone," is designed to create an ultra-deep, rock-solid tone by circumventing the main oscillator and using the LFO as the primary audio source. It's the perfect foundation for ambient, industrial, or experimental tracks.

Patch: Subterranean 60Hz Drone

This patch creates an ultra-deep, stable, fundamental drone that bypasses the VCO for minimum drift, using the LFO as the primary audio source.

Front Panel Configuration Setting Notes
VCO Waveform SAW (Setting is irrelevant as VCO is muted)
MIXER EXT. AUDIO 10 (Full CW) This is crucial! It routes the LFO cable through the filter.
VCF Cutoff 8 o'clock Low setting for a dark, deep tone.
VCF Resonance 9 o'clock (High) Adds thickness and rumble to the low frequencies.
VCA Mode ON Maintains the continuous drone without sequencing.
EG A/D/S/R 10 (Maxed) Sets the Envelope to a continuous maximum CV.
LFO Rate Approx. 7 o'clock Adjust this dial to control the drone's fundamental pitch/frequency.

Step-by-Step Patch Cable Routing:

Step Source Destination Purpose
1 LFO TRI EXT. AUDIO The Key: Routes the LFO audio directly through the filter and to the VCA stage.
2 NOISE VCF CUTOFF (Optional) Introduces high-frequency random modulation to the filter for subtle texture/shimmer.

Your Turn: Tweak and Share!

This drone is a massive foundation, but it needs movement and space!

For our audio sample, we processed the signal with an extra layer of space from the Valhalla Shimmer.

We strongly encourage you to experiment with your own effects. Try using a sidechain compressor to make the drone pump with a kick, or route a slow LFO to the MIX CV input to gradually fade between the LFO source and the muted VCO. This is where you make it truly unique!

When you've perfected your sound, share a video or clip on social media. Remember to tag @sonalsystem and use the hashtag #60HzDrone so we can check out and repost your work!
